Is Your Fifth Grader Ready for More Than Routine Math?
For Grade 5 students who already understand the basics, this workbook provides more challenging practice in whole-number operations, fractions, and decimals.
Students work with larger numbers, multiply two 3-digit numbers, and tackle less familiar problem formats. Every chapter begins with a worked example before independent practice.
What Makes This Practice More Challenging?
The challenge isn’t just bigger numbers. Students also work with less familiar problem formats and apply familiar operations to large numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Large-number operations. Students add six large numbers in a single column, subtract large numbers, and multiply two 3-digit numbers. Long division includes 5-digit numbers with remainders.
- Missing-divisor problems. Instead of calculating a quotient directly, students work backward to find the missing divisor.
- Fraction operations. Students add and subtract fractions with different denominators, then multiply and divide proper fractions.
- Decimal operations. Addition and subtraction extend to three decimal places, while multiplication and division are practiced in columns.
Each chapter focuses on a single skill, allowing your child to work through one method in depth before moving to the next.
Worked Example in Every Chapter
All 13 chapters follow the same three-step sequence:
EXAMPLE → PRACTICE → MASTER
1. EXAMPLE – See the method.
Each chapter begins with a worked example that explains the method in numbered steps before your child attempts similar problems.
2. PRACTICE – Apply the method.
Six practice pages follow each worked example, giving your child repeated opportunities to apply the demonstrated method to new problems.
3. MASTER – Check the work and learn from mistakes.
The answer key includes every answer, organized by page and item number. Children can check their work, identify mistakes, and return to the worked example when they need to review the method.
